Directions

The pool is on the side of Hot Springs creek approx 100 metres upstream of its confluence with the Wanganui River on the true left bank about 1 hours walk up the river from the roadend which is approx 5 km north of Harihari. [Joe Hansen, Masterton]

Follow the track up the true right bank. It takes about an hour to get there. Hot Pool Creek joins the river on the true left bank. There are a couple of creeks on the true left before, but you know when you are at Hot Pool Creek because of the grassy flat before it. Hot Pool Creek is at the top of the flat. We crossed the river directly opposite Hot Pool Creek. The Wanganui is wide and shallow at this point. A few meters before the bank turn upstream to avoid a deep pool where Hot Springs Creek joins the Wanganui. The hot springs are about 50 metres up the creek on the left hand side (true right of the creek) under a low mossy bluff well away from the flow of the creek. Follow the smell of sulfur! There is a rake and shovel there to clean out the pool. [Branton Kenton-Dau, Chirstchurch]
