  2. About 20-25 of our bike club (Maketu Gentlemans Club), and our families rode over from the Bay of Plenty on 1 January 2010. What an awesome time we all had. We basically had a free run of things while we were there and the hospitality from the locals (or in my case, whanau) was fantastic. Some of us tented it, some of us had rooms and all the kids slept in the big lounge. Because of an accident, we had to cut our trip short, but will definitely be going back. Thanks Auntie and Uncle for an awesome time.

  8. My wife Bernie and I are very good friends of new owners Knox and Marilyn , and had the pleasure of staying with them at the newly opened hotel . They have done a huge amount of renovation and restoration with still lots more to do , but the new rooms are very comfortable , with modern , beds , bedding and furnishings . The bar is up and running and very appealing , for a cold ale or two . A private hot mineral bath is one of the luxuries to relax in after a long trip, and a back section with picnic tables under shading trees is great for enjoying that freshly caught and cooked crayfish from near by Waipiro Bay . We wish Knox and Marilyn all the best with their new venture , and I'm sure it will be the most sought after accommodation on the East Coast

  10. Kia Ora I have just been doing some research on TPS and seen some of the comments wanting to know more info. If you haven't already you can find some info from a book called Taking the Waters - it seems to cover those families who leased the springs since they were 'established' and there are government records and newspaper articles that relate to these families too. Google Papers past on national library website or even email me as I have a couple of old newspaper articles from the Gisborne library (H.B. Williams) from 1902. Noho ora mai

  11. My family visited Te Puia Springs during the summer of 1968-'69. I was 13 years old and I recall a large, outdoor pool. I still have photos, one of my younger brother on Dad's shoulders in the middle of the pool. Obviously, that large pool has gone but I can clearly remember the wonderful time that we spent en-route to Hick's Bay where we camped for a week. Stan (formerly of Hastings NZ)

  16. My late Grand parents Joe & Jenny Moody ran the Hotel around 1930-1940's. I recall my mother saying the Hotel was burnt down by the chemist next door. They lost every thing. I would love it if some one could tell me more & the year this happened. My Mothers name was Nancy Moody & her brother was John. Regards Prue
