1. Fernland Spa Mineral Hot Pools

In the heart of Tauranga City, you'll find an enticing thermal oasis, appropriately named Fernland. Inside a natural amphitheatre it’s is a different world from the vibrant city, a world of sub-tropical native tree ferns and attractive native flora romantically lit at night to give the spacious pools complex a truly exotic feel.

3. Athenree Hot Springs and Holiday Park

A delightful little pool and extremely well maintained. Closes at 8pm from total drainage and refilling. In some ways, it's a pity this process takes so long - I would have liked to stay later. [Andrew A, Wellington]

Nice campground, clean, nice bush walks and stream running through camp ground. Pools are only warm not hot, 28 - 32 degrees. Hot spas are additional costs. [Julie, New Zealand]

A large salt water facility at the base of Mount Maunganui. Very popular all year round (especially with kids). Several heated outdoor hot pools to choose from. Cheap at just $5 per adult. Not strickly thermal, but deserving of mention on this website.

What a great place. Cosy cabins, clean facilities and not one, not two but three 'hot, hotter and hottest' thermal pools. Crystal clear, the water left your skin silky smooth, can't wait to go again. [Denise Lewins, Auckland]
