1. A.C. Baths

2. Tokaanu Thermal Pools

Mangaroa Street, Tokaanu

Oh Yes! A far, far cry from the primitive conditions that used to be here. Sparking clear water and an excellent place to end the day before staying the night in Turangi/Tokaanu. [Andrew A, Wellington]

3. Butcher's Pool

Northeast of Golden Springs, near Reporoa

This pool is owned and maintained by the Rotorua District Council for the free use of all. RDC developed the site in 2000 after a generous grant to them for this purpose by the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust. 4. The Tubs

Eastern side of Lake Ohakuri

There are two old bathtubs sitting in the stream bed that each have 2 hose tubes, one hot, one cold. You cram some rocks (or your togs...) into the plughole and then grab the hot hose that is fed by a small bubbling hotpool just up the hillside and draw yourself a bath. 5. Akatarewa Stream

Eastern side of Lake Ohakuri

A nice naturally occurring pool, which is part of the Waikato river, on the banks of Lake Ohakuri. The thermal activity provides hot water all year round by means of a large pipe set into the bank. [Steve, NZ]

6. Paradise

Eastern side of Lake Ohakuri

A little tricky to find but worth it! Past the nudist colony, there is a dirt road off to the left, park and walk down. If the main spot is too cold, follow the little track over above the spring and there is another, hotter pool about 15 metres along. Move downstream until you can bear it! [Aran Pudney, NZ]

8. Otumuheke Stream, Spa Park

Waikato River, Taupo

Easy to walk to of course, BUT it's a welcome stop off point to thaw out when your drifting down the waikato! Brilliant to have a very hot pool right next to a cold river. Makes it easy to set the right temperature! [Glen, NZ]

9. Tarawera Hot Springs

Taupo-Napier Highway

Half way between Taupo and Napier, 10 minutes down a gravel track, over looking a valley and river, perch two concrete tubs on the hillside. The hot spring water flows in through a black plastic pipe. Rugged but picturesque. Not to be confused with Mount Tarawera near Rotorua [Sheldon]

11. Golden Springs Motel and Holiday Park

2 lovely warm pools set in beautiful bush and shaded by palms. Access in bad weather is not a problem with newly built boardwalks and solar lighting is used to allow use at night!!

This hot pool is on private property. Seek permission from Barry and Maggie Vincent. Their house is red brick, about 200m north of the camping ground on the other side of SH 5.
