Hot Spring Flat, Mid Wanganui River

Mid March 2013. After TWO month of no rain and REALLY dry weather the Wanganui River was absolutely impossible to cross. Belly deep water and incredibly quick and strong flow. The hike itself (1h+ from the public car park) was unpleasant due to the massive rock slides and various flooded areas along the track. Go there only if you really know what you’re doing; otherwise just stop at the Amethyst HS, a whole 5 minutes from the same car park 🙂
